Women's Volleyball travels to Alaska

Alyssa McDonald was one of three Hawks named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team
The Rockhurst women's volleyball team travels to Fairbanks, Alaska for four matches in the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic Thursday through Saturday.

Rockhurst will face Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CST and Rollins on Friday at 5:30 p.m. CST.

The Hawks finish with two matches on Saturday, playing Alaska Anchorage at 2 p.m. CST and Alaska Fairbanks at 10 p.m. CST.

Last weekend, Rockhurst started the season with a 4-0 record at the Fort Hays State Tiger Invitational, including three-set victories over Cameron and Northwest Missouri State. Rockhurst won in four sets against Arkansas Tech and in five sets over Fort Hays State.

Senior outside hitter Sarah Pyle led the Hawks with 59 kills (3.93 k/s) and 53 digs (3.53 dig/s) last week. Sophomore middle hitter Delaney Hope had a team-leading 23 blocks and tallied a .317 hitting percentage.

Pyle, Alyssa McDonald and Molly Trachta were all named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Cal State San Bernardino (3-0) began their season with wins over Northwest Nazarene, Emporia State and 16th-ranked Point Loma.

Thursday's match between the Hawks and Coyotes will be just their second, as the Hawks won 3-2 over the then 16th-ranked Coyotes at the Colorado Premier Challenge in 2021 in Denver, Colorado.

Last weekend, Rollins (4-0) defeated Albany State, Young Harris, Emory & Henry and Georgia College at the Bobcat Classic. Friday's match between the Hawks and the Tars will be their first meeting.

Alaska Anchorage (7-0) won all three matches in the Seawolf Invitational last weekend, defeating Biola, Cal-State San Marcos and Minot State.

Friday's contest will be the fourth between Rockhurst and Alaska Anchorage and their first since 2015, when the Hawks fell 3-1. The Hawks lead the all-time series 2-1.

Alaska Fairbanks (6-1) enters on a four-match winning streak, with three of those wins coming in the UAA Volleyball Invitational last weekend over Cal State San Marcos, Biola and Minot State. Rockhurst and Alaska Fairbanks have only played once, as the Nanooks won 3-1 in 2009.

Live stats and video will be available for all four matches. Check the Rockhurst website for the links.
