Hawks heading to Florida after dramatic 4-3 win

For the second day in a row, the Rockhurst women's tennis team came from behind to stay alive in the NCAA Division II Tournament and earn a trip to the NCAA Championship in Florida next week.

Dani Lentisco rallied in the third set to win No. 5 singles in a tie-breaker to give the sixth-seeded Hawks a 4-3 victory over seventh-seeded Indianapolis in the second round of the NCAA Midwest Regional Tuesday at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.

Lentisco rebounded from a 6-5 deficit to win the third set in a 7-1 tie-breaker. Minutes earlier, Ella Coleman won a 7-3 tie-breaker to win the third set in No. 1 singles to even the match at 3-all.

Marina Magai scored Rockhurst's second point of the match with a two-set win in No. 4 singles. She won the first set, 6-4, and collected a 7-2 win in a tie-breaker in the second set.

The Hawks (18-5) won eight of 10 tie-breakers in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, beginning with a 4-2 record in tie-breakers against third-seeded Findlay on Monday.

Rockhurst jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles play. Maria Baez and Sofia Valdespino teamed up for a 6-2 win in No. 3 doubles. Lentisco and Magai were 6-3 winners in No. 2 doubles.

The Hawks (18-5) will now be playing in the Round of 16 at the NCAA D-II Women's Tennis Championship for the first time in school history. Rockhurst will play Midwestern State on Wednesday, May 21 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
