Women open NCAA play with 4-2 win over No. 15 Findlay

The Rockhurst women's tennis team rallied in singles play to post a 4-2 victory over 15th-ranked Findlay in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional Monday at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.

Marina Magai clinched the win for the Hawks with a 6-0 victory in the third set in No. 4 singles. Magai rebounded from a 5-2 deficit to win the second set in a 9-7 tie-breaker.

Maria Baez also came back to force a third set with a 7-6 tie-break win after trailing 5-2 in No. 6 singles. Her match was unfinished with a 3-2 lead in the third set.

Dani Lentisco gave Rockhurst a 3-2 lead with a two-set win in No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-4). Ella Coleman and Sofia Valdespino both won by identical 7-6, 6-3 scores in No. 1 and 2 singles to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Findlay opened the match with wins in No. 1 and 2 doubles to grab an early 1-0 lead.

The sixth-seeded Hawks (17-5) will face seventh-seeded Indianapolis in the second round at 11 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday, May 13,in Allendale, Michigan. UIndy (16-6) upset second-seeded Grand Valley State, 4-2, earlier in the day.
