The Rockhurst baseball team wrapped up their four-game series against Maryville on Monday with a pair of narrow losses by 5-4 and 4-2 scores at Loyola Park.
Maryville opened the series with 8-2 and 6-5 wins over the Hawks on Sunday. Rockhurst outhit the Saints, 22-21, while stranding 21 runners in the two games.
Sunday Game 1: Maryville 8, Rockhurst 2
The Saints scored all eight of their runs in the first five innings. Matthew Brimacombe led Hawks two hits and two stolen bases. Adonis Forte doubled home a run in the fifth and Dakota Hanna added an RBI single in the sixth.
Sunday Game 2: Maryville 6, Rockhurst 5
The Hawks nearly came back from a 6-1 deficit in the seventh. Rockhurst scored four runs on six hits in the seventh. Adonis Forte and Afton Koch combined for six of the Hawks' 14 hits. Dakota Hanna and Patrick Wind added two hits apiece. Garrison Mertz held the Saints to one run on three hits over 5.0 innings.
Monday Game 1: Maryville 5, Rockhurst 4
The Saints scored three runs with two outs in the seventh to rally from a 4-2 deficit. The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third with single runs in the first three innings. Drew Cornelison led Rockhurst with a solo home run in the second and an RBI single in the sixth. Jake Canent held the Saints to two earned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings.
Monday Game 2: Maryville 4, Rockhurst 2
Maryville scored all four of its runs in the fourth with the aid of two errors. Michael Laudando collected two of the Hawks' four hits. Brendan Rodis (3-2) allowed one earned run on four hits over 7.0 innings.
The Hawks (16-14, 6-10 GLVC) play at Saint Louis University at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
