Hawks rally for 3-2 victory over Miners

Rockhurst rallied in the fifth set to record a dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Missouri S&T on Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks earned their sixth win in a row and their 11th win in their last 12 matches after the Miners won the first two sets.

Rockhurst overcame deficits of 6-0, 8-1, 13-9, two ties and two Missouri S&T match points in the fifth set to win 18-16. Kills by Beau Cecil and Nathan Jacques ended the match.

The Miners took the first two sets, 33-31 and 25-22. Rockhurst answered by winning 25-21 in the third set and 25-20 in the fourth set.

Shay Spadaro and Lucas Tran each tallied 23 kills and two service aces. Spadaro led the Hawks with three blocks, while Tran collected a team-leading 16 digs. 

Jacques also recorded two service aces and 14 digs and led the Hawks with 50 assists. Aron DeRoy and Daniel Mekonen each tallied three blocks.

Tyler Zippay had 15 assists and Jackson Daugherty had 14 digs. Beau Cecil had 11 kills.

The Hawks recorded 76 kills, seven service aces, 10 blocks, 71 assists and 66 digs. Rockhurst finished with a .253 hitting percentage.
