Men edge Drury to finish first in GLVC West

The Rockhurst men's tennis team earned a dramatic 4-3 victory over Drury Saturday at the Plaza Tennis Center to capture the GLVC West Division championship.

The Hawks (13-5, 4-0 GLVC) will play on Saturday at 1 p.m. against a team to be determined in the semifinals of the GLVC Men's Tennis Tournament in Springfield, Illinois.

Freshman Dylan Rainwater won the deciding match in three sets in No. 6 singles. He won the final two sets, 6-2 and 6-3, over Drury's Alejandro Esquivel.

Semyon Tsyrenov, Alex Tikhonov and Diego Schtulmann won their singles matches in straight sets. Tsyenov and Creed Skinner posted a 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles.

On Friday, the Hawks defeated Southwest Baptist, 5-2, at the Plaza Tennis Center for the men's first NCAA-era win over the Bearcats.

The Hawks won No. 2 and 3 doubles by a combined score of 13-10. Tsyrenov and Louis Keiner won No. 1 and 2 singles in three sets. Tikhonov and Schtulmann won No. 5 and 6 singles in two sets.
