Offense carries Hawks to 12-5 win over Prairie Stars

Matthew Brimacombe and Adonis Forte combined for four hits and seven RBI to lead Rockhurst to a 12-5 victory over Illinois Springfield in the first game of a doubleheader Friday in Springfield, Illinois.

Brimacombe hit a three-run triple in the second inning and an RBI single in the sixth. Forte connected on a three-run home run in the fifth to give the Hawks a 7-3 lead.

Michael Laudando drove in two runs with a single in the sixth. Drew Cornelison doubled in the second and hit a solo home run in the seventh.

Jake Canent (5-2) allowed five runs on nine hits and struck out 11 in 7.0 innings.

In the second game, the Prairie Stars hit a three-run walk-off home run in the ninth to end the series with a 9-6 victory.

The Hawks rallied from a 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the fifth on a two-run homer by Cornelison. Forte's three-run homer in the fifth cut UIS's lead to 4-3.

Cornelison, Afton Koch and Cole Wagner led the Hawks with two hits apiece. Wagner's RBI single in the ninth tied the game at 6-6.

Rockhurst (20-19, 10-14 GLVC) return home to play 13th-ranked Lewis, April 25-27.
