Rockhurst opened its road trip to Illinois Springfield with a 9-6 loss in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday in Springfield, Illinois. The Prairie Stars also won the nightcap, 5-1.
UIS jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth inning in Game One. The Hawks rallied to score three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to cut UIS's lead to 7-6. The Prairie Stars tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth.
Adonis Forte led the Hawks with a two-run home run in the fifth and a double in the first. Drew Cornelison and Patrick Wind hit solo home runs. Michael Laudando posted an RBI double in the sixth and Peyton Clerk singled home a run in the first. Afton Koch collected three hits.
Laudando (5-3) allowed six earned runs and struck out eight in 6.0 innings.
In Game Two, UIS scored three runs early and held the Hawks to four hits. Matthew Brimacombe singled, stole second and scored on a throwing error in the fourth.
Gavyn Dockery (3-1) held UIS to four earned runs while striking out five in 5.2 innings.

Rockhurst (19-18, 9-13 GLVC) plays another doubleheader at UIS on Friday.
