Women open conference play with two road wins

The Rockhurst women's tennis team opened conference play with victories over Truman State and Quincy.

The Hawks (11-5, 2-0 GLVC) posted a 7-0 victory over Truman State on Friday in Kirksville, Missouri. Ella Coleman won her No. 1 singles match in two sets and teamed up with Zuzanna Szmyd to capture No. 1 doubles.

Sofia Valdespino, Szmyd, Dani Lentisco, Maria Baez and Hana Bytyqi also won in straight sets in singles play.

On Saturday, the Hawks posted a 7-0 win at Quincy. Coleman and Szmyd opened with a 6-1 win in No. 1 doubles.

Coleman, Szmyd, Marina Magai, Dani Lentisco and Maria Baez won in singles in straight sets. Valdespino won No. 2 singles when her opponent retired.

The Hawks play at William Jewell on Saturday.
