Third-inning outburst leads Hawks to 8-2 win

A five-run third inning carried Rockhurst to an 8-2 victory over Missouri-St. Louis in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader in St. Louis.

Drew Cornelison doubled home Adonis Forte to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead in the third. Peyton Clerk followed with a two-run single. Matthew Brimacombe added an RBI single and came around to score on a balk in the third.

Michael Laudando capped the scoring with a two-run single in the fifth. Laudando (5-2) allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts over 7.0 innings.

Brimacombe led the Hawks with three hits, two stolen bases, one run and one RBI. Clerk posted two hits, two runs and three RBI. Laudando collected two hits and two RBI. Dakota Hanna added two hits.

UMSL came back to win the second game, 14-4. The Tritons scored nine runs in the first two innings.

Forte and Andrew Loeffelman hit solo home runs in the third. Afton Koch led the Hawks with two hits.

Rockhurst (18-16, 8-11 GLVC) will close out the four-game series at UMSL at noon Sunday.
