Hawks post 7-5 win in Game One at Upper Iowa

Adonis Forte singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning to lead Rockhurst to a 7-5 victory over Maryville in the first game on a Saturday doubleheader in Fayette, Iowa.

Matthew Brimacombe hit a two-run double in the seventh to give the Hawks a 5-3 lead. The Peacocks tied the score with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Forte led the 12-hit Rockhurst attack with three hits. Michael Laudando, Patrick Wind and Afton Koch added two hits apiece. Brandon Hebrank (2-1) got the win in relief of starter Gavyn Dockery.

In the second game, Upper Iowa outscored the Hawks 13-8. The Peacocks scored five runs in the first and five more in the fifth to take a 12-5 lead.

Forte led the Hawks with four RBI on two hits. Brimacombe, Laudando, Drew Cornelison and Michael Novak each posted three hits.

The Hawks (16-10, 6-6 GLVC) return home to host Maryville next weekend.
