Hawks drop conference opener to Drury

The Rockhurst baseball team opened conference play with a 13-10 loss in 10 innings to Drury Friday night at Loyola Park.

A three-run home by Drury shortstop Landon Willbrand in the top of the 10th inning kept the Panthers unbeaten in conference play at 5-0.

The Hawks scored six runs in the first to take a 6-4 lead behind a two-run double by Cole Wagner. Drury grabbed a 7-6 lead in the second and took a 10-9 lead into the ninth. Luke Scalf tied the game at 10-10 with a run-scoring single in the ninth.

Rockhurst finished with 17 hits. Dakota Hanna led the Hawks with four hits and two RBI. Drew Cornelison hit a solo home run in the fifth and led off the seventh with a triple.

Avery Garmon posted RBI doubles in the first and eighth innings. Michael Laudando and Afton Koch also collected two hits.

Brandon Hebrank (1-1) allowed three runs on three hits over the final three innings.

The Hawks (10-5, 0-1 GLVC) continue their four-game series with Drury with a doubleheader on Saturday.
