The Rockhurst men's volleyball team defeated Central Christian in three sets twice (25-6, 25-16 and 25-16 in the first match) and (25-18, 25-18 and 25-9 in the second match) on Saturday inside Mason-Halpin Field House. Rockhurst is now on a three-match winning streak.
Match 1: Rockhurst 3, Central Christian, 0
Carson Pliapol led the Hawks with eight kills. Tyler Bittel (five), Shay Spadaro (three) and Nate Barton (two) combined for nine service aces.
Daniel Mekonen, Bittel and Nate Barton had three blocks apiece. Riley Brown recorded 15 assists, as Billy Harms and Beau Cecil tied for the team lead in digs with four each.
As a team, Rockhurst had 29 kills, 13 service aces, seven blocks, 26 assists and 18 digs. The Hawks also held Central Christian to a -.077 hitting percentage.
Match 2: Rockhurst 3, Central Christian 0
Cecil led the Hawks with eight kills, as Harms had seven kills and a team-leading seven digs and two service aces. Harms, Cecil (four), Brown (four) and Bailey McCue (six) combined for 21 digs.
Brown had 28 assists and a .636 hitting percentage. Bittel had three blocks.
Nathan Jacques, Cecil, Spadaro, Brown, Bittel and Barton also recorded an ace.
As a team, Rockhurst recorded 35 kills, eight service aces, seven blocks, 34 assists and 26 digs.
