William Jewell rallies to edge Hawks, 80-78

A late rally by William Jewell gave the Cardinals an 80-78 win over Rockhurst on Saturday in Liberty, Missouri.

The Hawks took a 74-68 lead with 2:34 left. Then, the Cardinals went on a 10-2 to take a 78-76 lead with 29 seconds left before two Jaylen Wesley free throws tied the game at 78-all.

Moments later, a Kyle Scharbrough jump shot in the paint with two seconds left gave William Jewell (8-14, 5-9 GLVC) an 80-78 lead, capping off a 12-4 run by the Cardinals. Brian Hawthorne missed a potential game-winning three-pointer as time expired.

Wesley led the Hawks with 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Hawthorne added 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal. 

Nick Arensberg scored 11 points with four rebounds and an assist. Daniel Carr had nine points, 10 rebounds and one assist.

Rockhurst shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the floor and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from three. The Hawks also collected 11 assists.
