Hawks fall in five sets to Roberts Wesleyan

Rockhurst Men's Volleyball fell to Roberts Wesleyan in a close five-set match on Friday in Rochester, New York, snapping a six-match winning streak. 

In the opening set, the Hawks were up 8-7 before a 9-3 run extended their lead to 17-10. The Hawks used a 5-2 run at the end to win 25-15. Shay Spadaro, Lucas Tran and Nate Barton combined for all 10 kills to help the Hawks go up 1-0 in the match.

Rockhurst had an 8-7 lead in the second set before pushing their lead to 13-7 after a 5-0 run. The Hawks took four more five-point leads (13-8, 17-12, 18-13 and 24-19) before a 25-22 victory. During the second set, Nathan Jacques collected 14 of the team's 16 assists.

Roberts Wesleyan (6-5) won the last three sets (25-23, 25-22 and 15-11) to win the match.

Spadaro's 20 kills and four service aces led the Hawks in both categories, as he also added three blocks. Aron DeRoy had six blocks and Jaques recorded 54 assists. Jackson Daugherty collected 12 digs.

The Hawks had 62 kills, four service aces, nine blocks, 60 assists and 47 digs.
