Men fall to McKendree in final seconds

A contested layup off the glass by Joey Niesman with three seconds left gave McKendree a 67-65 win over Rockhurst on Thursday in Lebanon, Illinois. 

Both teams turned over the ball in the final three seconds. Jaylen Wesley stole a Bearcat inbounds pass with two seconds left and missed a mid-range jump shot with less than a second left on the clock.

McKendree took a nine point lead, 58-49, at the 6:39 mark before the Hawks used a 16-7 run over the next 6:23. Micah Deaver's two free throws at the end of the Hawks' run tied the game at 65-all with 16 seconds left.

Rockhurst took early second-half leads of 28-26, 31-28 and 33-31. Moments later, a quick 5-0 run gave the Bearcats (13-13, 10-9 GLVC) a 36-33 advantage.

Jaden Flournoy led the Hawks with 19 points, and added seven rebounds and a steal. Nick Arensberg scored 13 points on five-of-10 shooting. Wesley nearly recorded a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Rockhurst shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52) and 25 percent (5-of-20) from the three-point line. The Hawks also shot 78.3 percent (18-of-23) from the free-throw line.
