Hawks split doubleheader with Truman

Rockhurst rallied to post a 3-2 victory over Truman State in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Hawks scored one run in the third and two runs in the fifth to overcome a 2-0 deficit. Patrick Wind drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Gavyn Dockery held the Bulldogs to two runs on eight hits while striking out six in 7.0 innings.

Matthew Brimacombe led the Hawks with three hits and two stolen bases. Adonis Forte had an RBI single in the third.

In the second game, Truman State held off a late rally to edge the Hawks, 7-5. The Bulldogs (1-7) scored three runs in the first inning and three in the sixth to take a 7-2 lead.

Rockhurst scored three runs in the seventh and ended the game with the bases loaded.

Drew Cornelison drove in three runs with a triple in the third and a two-run double in the seventh. Cornelison, Brimacombe, Forte and Andrew Loeffelman each finished with two hits.

The Hawks (3-1) play a single game with Pittsburg State at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Urban Youth.
