Baseball opens season with pair of wins

The Rockhurst baseball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of wins over Truman State Monday at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri.

Rockhurst won the first game, 3-2, behind the pitching and hitting of Michael Laudando. The senior right-hander struck out 10 in 6.0 innings and gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

The Hawks scored two unearned runs in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Patrick Wind hit a two-out double to start the two-run rally.

Brendan Rodis pitched out of a one-out, bases loaded jam in the seventh to get the save. Laudando collected two of the Hawks' four hits.

In the second game, Rockhurst posted a 5-2 victory. Jake Canent held the Bulldogs to two runs on seven hits over 7.0 innings.

Dakota Hanna doubled home three runs in the first inning to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Two walks and a Laudando single preceded Hanna's double.

Drew Cornelison hit a solo home run to left in the second to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead.

The Hawks (2-0) and Truman (0-6) play another doubleheader on Tuesday at Urban Youth.
