Men fall on buzzer beater to No. 11 Miners

A Cameron Stovall tip-in with one second left gave No. 11 Missouri S&T a 78-77 victory over Rockhurst Saturday on Senior Day at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Stovall's basket capped off a stretch where neither team held a lead of more than four points over the final 10:13 of the game. Overall, the second half saw six ties and six lead changes.


After the Miners (22-3, 16-2 GLVC) started the game up 8-3, the Hawks answered with an 8-0 run to take an 11-8 lead, Missouri S&T answered with a 7-0 run to take 15-11 lead at the 8:08 mark.


Both teams exchanged four ties and four lead changes through the rest of the first half, as the game was tied at 28 with 2:25 left. Missouri S&T ended the half on a 5-0 run to take a 33-28 lead at halftime.


Jaylen Wesley scored a career-high 32 points, with 23 in the second half. Nick Arensberg had 13 points with two rebounds and two assists.


Jaden Flournoy had 12 points. Brian Hawthorne recorded 10 points, five rebounds, an assist and four steals.


Daniel Carr had a team-leading nine rebounds and added six points and a steal.


The Hawks shot 41.8 percent (28-of-67) from the field and 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from the three-point line. Rockhurst also shot 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free-throw line.
