Men post 85-77 comeback victory over SBU

A 55-point second half led Rockhurst to an 85-77 comeback victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday in Bolivar, Missouri.

This is the seventh time this season that the Hawks have scored 50 or more points in a half and the second time in the last four games. Rockhurst also overcame a 17-point deficit.

Rockhurst (16-8, 10-6 GLVC) trailed 44-32 with 18:52 left. The Hawks then went on a 29-9 run over the next 8:50 to take a 61-52 lead at the 10:02 mark. 

Southwest Baptist (7-15, 4-12 GLVC) climbed to within two at 66-64 with 6:07 left and to three at 74-71 with 3:18 left, but the Hawks went on to finish the game on an 11-6 run to secure the win. In the second half, Rockhurst shot 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the floor and 58.3 percent (10-of-25) from three.

After the Hawks were down 11-10 with 15:18 to go in the first half, Southwest Baptist used a 24-11 run to take a 35-21 lead at the 3:31 mark. Rockhurst outscored the Bearcats 10-7 to end the first half down 42-30.

Three Hawks finished with 10 or more points in the second half. Brian Hawthorne led the Hawks with 29 (27 in the second half) with three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Nick Arensberg had 16 points (13 in the second half) and added five rebounds and an assist. 

Jaylen Wesley had 14 points (10 in the second half) with six rebounds, an assist and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Daniel Carr posted seven points and a team-leading 13 rebounds.

Rockhurst shot 49 percent (25-of-51) from the floor and 40 percent (10-of-25) from three. The Hawks also shot 73.5 percent (25-of-34) from the free-throw line.
