Men post 78-77 comeback victory over Quincy

A 55-point second half led Rockhurst to a 78-77 comeback victory over Quincy on Saturday inside Mason-Halpin Field House. With the win, Rockhurst is on its second three-game winning streak of the season.

Rockhurst went on a 10-0 run during the first 2:32 of the second half to tie the game at 33-all. The game was also tied at 38-all before a 5-0 run gave Rockhurst a 43-38 lead at the 15:34 mark.

The Hawks kept the lead until the 4:07 mark when a Camren Kinkaid free throw for Quincy tied the game for the final time at 65. Quincy was within a point of Rockhurst on three occasions in the final 2:50 at 70-69, 72-71 and 78-77 (with less than a second left), but Rockhurst held on for the win.

Quincy (8-12, 3-9 GLVC) started the game on an 8-1 run. Rockhurst trailed for the remainder of the first half as Quincy took a 33-23 lead at halftime. 

Brian Hawthorne led Rockhurst with 26 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists. Jaylen Wesley scored 21 points and added seven rebounds and two blocks, including 15 points and six rebounds in the second half. 

Nick Arensberg posted 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and Jaden Flournoy scored 10 points. Jesse White recorded seven points, six rebounds and four assists.

Rockhurst shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the floor and 22.7 percent (5-of-22) from three. The Hawks also collected 34 rebounds.
