The Rockhurst Hawks secured a point in the KC Cup with a 76-59 victory over crosstown rival William Jewell Saturday in Liberty, Missouri.
A Jaylen Wesley free throw with 4:12 left in the second half finished a 26-11 run by the Hawks, pushing Rockhurst's lead to 65-45. Drenin Dinkins (12) and Wesley (10) combined for 22 second-half points.
In the first half, Rockhurst held a 17-16 lead over the Cardinals at the 6:00 mark. The Hawks closed the first half on a 14-7 run to take a 31-23 lead at halftime. Jaden Flournoy (10) and Wesley (8) combined for 18 points in the first half.
Wesley led the Hawks with 18 points, six rebounds and four steals. Dinkins finished with 17 points and six rebounds, along with going 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Flournoy tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He also shot 3-of-4 from the three-point line.
Jack Scott scored a season-high eight points. Dillon Mong added five points, six rebounds and two steals. Peyton Newbern notched seven points.
The Hawks shot 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the floor and 37.5 percent (6-of-16) beyond the three-point line.
