Rockhurst edges UIndy in five sets

Alyssa McDonald posted a season-high 20 kills to power Rockhurst to a 3-2 victory over Indianapolis Friday night at  Mason-Halpin Field House.

After falling 25-22 to the Greyhounds in the first set, the Hawks won the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-22. Indianapolis won the fourth set, 25-18, to force the match to a deciding fifth set.

The Hawks jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the fifth set and went on to take a 14-9 lead. The Greyhounds cut the Rockhurst lead to 14-13 before Sarah Pyle ended the match with a kill off an assist from Molly Trachta.

Pyle finished with 18 kills and 18 digs. Delaney Hope tallied 19 combined and six blocks. Trachta and Mary Kate Mulvaney combined for 58 assists and 32 digs.

Katie Vargo had a team-high 32 digs and three service aces. Ali Olson (5) and McDonald (4) combined for nine blocks. Chloe Tyrrell added eight kills and seven digs.

Rockhurst collected 72 kills, 98 digs, 70 assists, 12 blocks and five service aces.

The Hawks (18-8, 8-1 GLVC) host Lewis (14-11, 5-5 GLVC) on Saturday at 2 p.m. on Senior Day.
