Hawks advance on PKs in NCAA Super Regional

The 10th-ranked Rockhurst men are moving on to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championships. The Hawks tied Maryville 1-1 and advanced on penalty kicks, 4-3, in the Super Regional Sunday at Bourke Field.

Fourth-seeded Rockhurst, 12-4-4, will now meet top-seeded Fort Hays State (18-0-3) on Sunday, Nov. 30 in Hays, Kansas at a time to be determined. The fourth-ranked Tigers (18-0-3) edged the Hawks, 1-0, in Kansas City in the season opener for both teams on Sept. 4.

Sophomore forward Immanuel Wayoro knocked in the deciding penalty kick in the fifth round to lift the Hawks past the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Blake Barrick, Kaden Cripe and Asier Olano also made their penalty kicks after the Hawks trailed 1-0 after the first round of PKs.

The Hawks tied the score at 1-1 in the 74th minute mark on a goal by junior midfielder Jack Dean. He scored his second goal of the season on a 22-yard shot into the upper left of the goal.

Rockhurst finished with 16 shots (four on goal). The Hawks had eight shots in the second half and five shots in the two overtime periods. Maryville posted five shots (two on goal).

Barrick led the Hawks with four shots. Cripe had three shots, while Dean and Caden Hoehns each had two shots. Stefano Camerlengo made one save (in the second half).
