Second-half run carries Hawks to season-opening win

Jaden Flournoy scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half to spark Rockhurst to an 82-72 win over Davenport on Friday at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge in Liberty, Missouri.

With the game tied at 36 at halftime, the Hawks went on an extended 18-6 run to begin the second half and took a 54-42 lead with 13:04 to go. Rockhurst's largest lead was 14 with 12:28 left and went on to outscore the Panthers, 46-36, in the second half.

Jaylen Wesley recorded a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He also went 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the free-throw line.

Drenin Dinkins posted 13 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Massi Malterer scored nine points. Peyton Newbern and Jack Scott combined for 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Hawks shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) from the field and 77.8 percent (28-of-36) from the free-throw line. Rockhurst also scored 26 points from turnovers.
