Hawks meet Maryville in GLVC semifinals

GLVC TOURNAMENT: Top-seeded Rockhurst (12-3-3) faces fifth-seeded Maryville (10-6-2) on Thursday, Nov. 13, in the GLVC Tournament semifinals at 4 p.m. at the Creve Coeur Soccer Park in St. Louis. This is the second meeting between the two schools this season. The Hawks won the first meeting in overtime by a 2-1 score at Rockhurst on Sept. 21. Rockhurst leads the all-time series, 12-7-1. The winner will advance to the GLVC championship game at noon Saturday, Nov. 15.

GLVC HISTORY: Rockhurst collected its seventh GLVC regular season championship this fall. This will be the Hawks' 10th appearance in the GLVC semifinals and hold an all-time record of 18-8-5 (3-2 in penalty kicks) in the GLVC Tournament. Rockhurst has won six GLVC Tournament titles: 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Rockhurst is ranked 10th in the National Soccer Coaches D2 Top 25 and fourth in the NCAA Super-Region 3 poll. The Hawks are tied for 14th in goals against average (0.667) and tied for 15th in save percentage (0.824) in NCAA D2. Senior goalkeeper Franco Briani Brunoro ranks 14th nationally in goals against average (0.644). Senior midfielder Kaden Cripe is tied for 13th in D2 in game-winning goals (4). Rockhurst ranks 32nd nationally in goal differential (16).

POSTSEASON HONORS: Seven players from Rockhurst earned 2025 All-Conference accolades from the GLVC, while two Hawks and head coach Tony Tocco nabbed major postseason honors. Junor defender Mattia Petricca was voted by the league coaches as GLVC Defensive Player of the Year. Senior Franco Briani Brunoro was selected the GLVC Goalkeeper Player of the Year. Tocco earned Coach of the Year laurels as voted by his peers. Joining Petricca and Briani Brunoro on the All-GLVC First Team were sophomore redshirt Blake Barrick, redshirt senior defender Noah Brende, senior midfielder Kaden Cripe, senior defender Asier Olano and sophomore forward Immanuel Wayoro. Barrick, Cripe and Wayoro have combined for 19 goals and 46 points. Brende and Olano have helped hold their opponents to 12 goals in 18 games while combining for two goals and eight assists.

COACH TONY TOCCO: Coach Tocco is in his 55th season at Rockhurst and ranks second on the all-time list among intercollegiate men's soccer coaches with 751 victories. Since joining the NCAA in 1998, the Hawks have advanced to the national tournament 10 times. Rockhurst finished third in the national rankings in Division II in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and ranked fourth nationally in 2008, 2011 and 2012. The Hawks won NCAA Midwest Regional titles in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017, and reached the national semifinals in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
