Late rally falls short as Hawks fall to Maryville

The Rockhurst men's basketball team fell 82-79 to Maryville on Thursday evening in St. Louis, Missouri. The loss snapped Rockhurst's six-game winning streak.

After Maryville (6-9, 2-5 GLVC) took a 27-19 lead in the first half, a 7-0 Hawks run cut the Maryville lead to 27-26 at the 5:39 mark. The Saints immediately followed with a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 34-26 and eventually took a 40-31 lead into halftime.

Rockhurst went on a 26-8 run late in the second half to cut Maryville's lead to 81-79 with 15 seconds left. The Saints added a free throw with eight seconds left and held on to win.

Four Hawks scored in double figures led by Brian Hawthorne's 24 points. He also added 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals. 

Jaylen Wesley recorded 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Jesse White scored 14 points and Nick Arensberg added 13 points. Daniel Carr had six points and collected a season-high 16 rebounds.

As a team, the Hawks shot 37.1 percent (26-of-70) from the floor and 25 percent (8-of-32) from three. Rockhurst also had 16 points off turnovers.
