Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball posts two wins on Saturday

The Rockhurst men's volleyball team won a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating Graceland 3-1 and Ottawa 3-0 at Mason-Halpin Field House. Rockhurst is now on its first three-match winning streak in program history.

Rockhurst 3, Graceland 1
After the Yellowjackets took a 2-0 lead in the first set, Rockhurst answered with a 9-2 run to take a 9-4 lead in the early going. After taking a 10-6 lead, Rockhurst used a 6-2 run to go up 15-8 and won the first set, 25-20.

A 12-2 Rockhurst run began the second set. With Rockhurst up 13-4, a 7-1 run pushed the second set lead to 20-5 in route to a 25-10 second set win.

Graceland won the third set, 25-23. Rockhurst began the fourth set on an 8-0 run and later took a 16-7 lead in route to a 25-14 fourth-set win.

Aron DeRoy led the Hawks with 14 kills. Tyler Zippay tallied 27 assists and five digs. Carson Pliapol posted 10 kills and eight digs. Max Tkachev added eight kills and seven digs.

Rockhurst 3, Ottawa 0
After trailing 5-4 in the first set, the Hawks used a 5-0 run take a 9-5 lead. Up 16-14, a 7-0 lead extended the Rockhurst lead to 23-14 before winning the set 25-19. Max Tkachev, Lucas Tran and Aron DeRoy combined for 10 kills in the first set.

The Hawks won the second set, 25-17, and the third set, 25-19.

Shay Spadaro and Lucas Tran each posted 10 kills to lead the Hawks. Tran also had three blocks and three service aces. Tkachev tallied six kills and seven digs.

Nathan Jacques had 22 assists and four digs. Zippay collected seven assists and three service aces.

Rockhurst (3-5) travels to Quincy, Illinois for three matches next weekend. Rockhurst faces Emmanuel on Friday at 3:30 p.m. followed by a Saturday matches against Quincy at 11 a.m. and Roosevelt at 3 p.m.
