Hawthorne leads Hawks to comeback win

Brian Hawthorne's career-high 32 points led Rockhurst to an 86-85 come-from-behind victory over Lewis on Saturday in Romeoville, Illinois. This was the fourth-ever win at Lewis and the Hawks' third win in their last four games against the Flyers.

Lewis (12-5, 7-3 GLVC) held a 10-point lead, 61-51, with 14:08 left and a nine-point lead, 66-57, with 10:45 left. A 5-0 push by the Hawks put them within four at 66-62 at the 9:29 mark.
 
The Hawks continued to chip away at the lead throughout the latter stages of the second half. Rockhurst pulled to within two twice (69-67 and 76-74) and within one (77-76) before a Jaylen Wesley layup gave the Hawks a 78-77 lead with 3:33 to go. 

Two more ties occurred at 81-all with 1:54 left and at 83-all with 1:29 left. Moments later, two free throws by Hawthorne and one by Jesse White put the Hawks up by three with 59 seconds left. Rockhurst held onto the lead for the rest of the game. 

The game began with five ties and five lead changes within the first four minutes, culminating at 10-10. Then, the Flyers went on a 15-3 run to take a 25-13 lead at the 12:39 mark.

The Hawks finished the last 5:17 of the first half on a 17-5 run to trail 43-42 at halftime. 

Hawthorne also had seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Wesley scored 18 points and added eight rebounds and five steals. 

White recorded 14 points and five assists, while Daniel Carr scored 10 rebounds and had six rebounds.

Rockhurst shot 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the floor and 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from the three-point line. The Hawks collected 25 rebounds.
