Max Tkachev posted 15 kills, five service aces, a block and four digs to lead the Hawks to a 3-1 victory over Kansas Wesleyan on Friday inside Mason-Halpin Field House. Friday's victory was the Hawks' first win in program history.
A 15-1 run by Rockhurst started the match. A few moments later, the Hawks used an additional 7-1 to take a 22-4 lead and took the first set, 25-6.Â
Rockhurst won the second set 25-17 after the Hawks closed the set on a 13-6 run. Kansas Wesleyan (0-1) took the third set, 26-24.
The fourth set saw Rockhurst start on a 7-2 run. Once the score was 12-9 in favor of Rockhurst, the Hawks went on a 6-2 run to go up 18-11. Rockhurst went on to win the final set of the match by a score of 25-20.
Nathan Jacques tallied 30 assists, seven digs and two blocks with a .625 hitting percentage.
Shay Spadaro posted a team-high eight digs and added eight kills and four assists.Â
Aron DeRoy and
Daniel Mekonen also recorded two blocks.
As a team, the Hawks collected 57 kills, 52 assists, 11 service aces, 38 digs and nine blocks with a .408 hitting percentage.
