Hawks fall to Upper Iowa on the road

A big second half run by Upper Iowa pushed the Peacocks past Rockhurst, 84-71, on Thursday night in Fayette, Iowa.

With the score tied at 51 with 11:44 left, Upper Iowa went on a 10-2 run to take a 61-53 lead. The Peacocks (13-5, 7-3 GLVC) went on to keep the lead for the rest of the game.

Upper Iowa scored the game's first five points. Moments later, the Hawks answered with a 9-0 run to take an early 9-5 lead. 

Both teams held leads of no more than four during the remainder of the first half. After the Hawks took a 15-11 lead with 13:26 left, three ties and five lead changes followed with Upper Iowa taking a 34-31 lead into the half.

Brian Hawthorne led the Hawks with 19 points on 50 percent shooting (7-of-14) and added five rebounds. Jaylen Wesley scored 15 points with five rebounds. Daniel Carr posted six points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

The Hawks shot 38.8 percent (26-of-67) from the floor and 15.8 percent (3-of-19) from three. Rockhurst also collected 38 rebounds.
