Men's Volleyball drops two matches in Chicago

The Rockhurst men's volleyball team fell 3-1 in two matches Saturday in Chicago, Illinois, falling to Saint Francis and No. 8 Loyola Chicago.

Rockhurst vs. Saint Francis

All four sets between Rockhurst and Saint Francis were within three points and three out of the four sets were within two. Saint Francis won the first set 25-23 and the second set 25-22.

During the third set, the Hawks and Red Flash held leads of no more than two points. There were six ties and seven lead changes, with the last of the lead changes taking place when the Hawks took a 24-23 lead. Rockhurst added the last point moments later to win the third set, 25-23.

The Red Flash won the fourth set 25-23 to win the match.

Shay Spadaro led the Hawks with nine kills and seven digs. Carson Pliapol posted seven kills and two blocks. Nathan Jacques finished with 31 assists and six digs.

Rockhurst vs. No. 8 Loyola Chicago

The Hawks began the game on a 3-1 run and a second 3-1 run a few moments later gave Rockhurst a 12-9 lead.  After the Hawks were up 13-11 in the first set, an 8-3 run extended their lead to 21-14. Rockhurst went on to win the first set, 25-17.

The Ramblers went on to win the next three sets, 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16 to win the match.

Lucas Tran led the way with 12 kills, six digs and two blocks. Spadaro collected nine kills. Aron DeRoy tallied seven kills and three blocks. Jacques had 31 assists and seven digs. Jackson Daugherty added 12 digs and four assists.

The Hawks (0-5) host their first-ever home match on Friday against Kansas Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
