Hawks fall to Illinois Springfield, 81-73

The Rockhurst men's basketball team fell 81-73 to Illinois Springfield on Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Illinois Springfield took a 55-54 lead with 8:07 left, which was the start of a 7-0 run. The Prairie Stars (9-8, 4-5 GLVC) held on to the lead for the rest of the game.

The Hawks went on a 7-0 run to take an early 7-2 lead and was up 25-18 with 6:28 left in the first half. Rockhurst finished the half on an 8-3 run to take a 33-32 halftime lead.

Four Hawks reached double figures. Jesse White led the Hawks with 18 points. Jaylen Wesley tallied 16 points, four rebounds and three steals. Brian Hawthorne also scored 16 points and added seven rebounds and four assists.

Nick Arensberg had 10 points while Daniel Carr recorded six points and a team-leading nine rebounds.

The Hawks shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the floor and 28.1 percent (9-of-32) from the three-point line. Rockhurst also collected 28 points in the paint.
