Second-half surge carries Maryville past Hawks

Maryville scored three goals with a man advantage in the second half to pull away for a 4-2 victory over Rockhurst in men's soccer Friday in St. Louis.

The Saints (1-3-1, 1-1 GLVC) took a 2-1 lead on a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Maryville scored on back-to-back header goals in the 65th and 75th minute to go up 4-1.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on a six-yard shot by Dylan Ashford off a long free kick by Asier Olano. Jacopo Belardo also assisted on the goal.

Octavio Miranda scored the Hawks' second goal in the 76th minute on a shot from the top of the box off a left cross from Olano.

Rockhurst (0-4, 0-2 GLVC) finished with nine shots and six shots on goals. Blake Barrick led the Hawks with two shots. RU keeper Franco Brunoro collected four saves.
