Offense carries Hawks to 10-4 win over UIS

The Rockhurst baseball team collected 16 hits to pull away for a 10-4 victory over Illinois Springfield in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader The Prairie Stars won the second game, 16-2.

The Hawks scored six runs in the first three innings and added four runs in the sixth.

Michael Novak led the Hawks with a double and two singles. Matthew Brimacombe tallied two hits and two RBIs. Adonis Forte and Andrew Loeffelman each had two hits and one RBI. Patrick Wind added two hits and Avery Garmon drove in two runs with a double.

Michael Laudando (2-1) held the Prairie Stars to three earned runs on seven hits over 7.0 innings with five strikeouts.

In Game Two, Springfield posted 14 hits off five Rockhurst pitchers. Peyton Clerk had an RBI single in the fourth for the Hawks.

On Friday, the Prairie Stars scored two runs in the eighth to rally for an 8-7 victory. The Hawks scored in five of the first six innings to take a 7-6 lead.

Dakota Hanna and Drew Cornelison combined for four hits and five RBIs. Hanna hit a solo home run in the second. Jake Canent (4-1) allowed two runs on five hits over 3.0 innings.
