Hawks, Ichabods combine for 48 runs, 43 hits

Washburn and Rockhurst took advantage of a windy day in Topeka, Kansas as the two teams combined for 48 runs and 43 hits Tuesday afternoon at Washburn's Falley Field.

The Ichabods scored 25 unanswered runs and tied the school record for runs in a game in posting a 29-19 victory over the Hawks.

Rockhurst jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second inning highlighted by a two-run single by Peyton Clerk.

Washburn scored 13 runs in the third inning while tying an NCAA record with six home runs in one inning. The Ichabods added 10 runs in the fourth to take a 26-4 lead.

Rockhurst battled back to score six runs in the fifth and eight runs in the sixth to cut WU's lead to 26-18. Jack Miller hit a three-run homer in the fifth and Drew Cornelison added a solo shot in the sixth.

Cornelison led the Hawks with four hits and three RBIs. Miller had two hits and drove in four while also pitching a scoreless inning. Michael Novak collected two hits and three RBIs. Matthew Brimacombe added two hits and two RBIs.

The 48 combined runs tied for the eighth highest scoring game in Division II baseball history. The two teams also combined for 86 total bases, which is the fourth most in a single game in NCAA DII history.

The Hawks (8-3) open conference play at home against Illinois Springfield on March 8.
