Late shot gives Hawks a 70-69 win over SBU

Miles White hit a driving layup with nine seconds left to give Rockhurst to a 70-69 victory over Southwest Baptist Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rockhurst secured its eighth win of the season at home when Tyler DeGroote blocked a short Bearcat jumper at the buzzer.

The Hawks went on a 10-0 run in the middle of the second half to rally from a 51-43 deficit at the 13:38 mark. Neither team led by more than five points in the final 10 minutes.

Jake Auer led the Hawks with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. The senior guard also made four-of-10 three-point field goals.

Rron Thaci scored 16 points behind four-of-five 3-point shooting. Timaris Brown tallied 15 points on five-of-11 shooting. White scored all nine of his points in the second half.

Rockhurst shot 44.6 percent from the field (25-of-56) and made 11 three-pointers. The Bearcats shot 50.0 percent from the field (27 of 54) and connected on four 3-pointers.

Drenin Dinkins led SBU (6-15, 2-12 GLVC) with 23 points.
