Hawks post 70-64 win over William Jewell

Jaylen Wesley scored an NCAA career-high of 28 points lead Rockhurst to a 70-64 victory over William Jewell Thursday evening at Mason-Halpin Field House in the latest edition of the KC Crown rivalry. 

Wesley scored the Hawks' first 15 points and 17 of their first 21. The Hawks later went on 9-3 run to take a 33-25 lead with 5:56 left in the first half. William Jewell (4-4, 1-1 GLVC) finished the half on an 11-0 run to take a 36-33 lead into halftime.

In the second half, there were 13 ties and 11 lead changes, as the final lead change was at 4:48 mark. Jesse White's first of three made free-throws after being fouled behind the three-point line gave the Hawks a 58-57 lead.

William Jewell cut the Rockhurst lead to 65-64 with 47 seconds left. Moments later, Jaden Flournoy made a corner three to give the Hawks a 68-64 lead with 29 seconds left. White added two free throws with two seconds left to cap a 5-0 run and the Rockhurst win.

Wesley added six rebounds and was 90.9 percent (10-of-11) from the free-throw line. White had 15 points, including 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Brian Hawthorne collected 12 points, six rebounds, seven assists, five steals and a block.

Rockhurst shot 40 percent (22-of-55) from the field and 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from the three-point line. The Hawks also collected 32 rebounds.
