Rockhurst erased a 14-point deficit to post its first come-from-behind victory of the season with an 80-75 win over Purdue Northwest. The Hawks defeated the Pride on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan, leaving the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge with an unbeaten 2-0 record.
The Hawks jumped out to a 6-1 lead for the second-straight game. Purdue Northwest used three separate runs during the first half (4-0, 7-0 and 9-0) to take a 28-16 lead over the Hawks with 6:18 left in the first half.
Purdue Northwest took their largest lead of the game at 33-19 with 5:10 left in the first half. The Hawks answered with an 11-4 run of their own to trim the Pride's lead to 37-30. Purdue Northwest took a 39-34 lead into halftime.
The Hawks reclaimed the lead with a 6-0 run in the second half to go up 57-55 with 11:52 left. Two ties and three lead changes later, including an 11-0 run by Rockhurst, pushed the Hawks to a 70-61 lead with 5:38 left. The Hawks kept the lead the rest of the way.
The Hawks had four in double figures in points. Jesse White and Jaylen Wesley led Rockhurst with 18 points apiece. Brian Hawthorne and Nick Arensberg each scored 11 points.
Daniel Carr posted his second straight double-digit rebounding game, as he had 13 to lead Rockhurst. Hawthorne and Jaden Flournoy each posted three assists.
The Hawks shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56) from the field, 40 percent (10-of-25) on 3-pointers and tallied 43 rebounds.
