The Rockhurst men's basketball team opened the 2024 season with a 64-54 win over Davenport in head coach Kyle Blackbourn's first game at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan Friday afternoon.
Rockhurst began the game on a 6-1 run and used a 7-1 run to go up 15-6 with 11:27 left in the first half. The Hawks finished the first half up 40-24. Rockhurst took two 20-point leads near the middle of the second half.
Three Hawks finished in double figures in points. Nick Arensberg led the way with 13 points, while Brian Hawthorne and Jaylen Wesley each scored 11. Hawthorne added seven rebounds and two assists; and Wesley notched eight rebounds.
Daniel Carr nearly had a double-double, as he had nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Hawks shot 44.9 percent (22-of-49) from the floor and 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from the 3-point line. Rockhurst also recorded 33 rebounds.
