Hawks open conference play with road win

The Rockhurst men's basketball team opened conference play with a 90-77 victory over Truman State Tuesday evening in Kirksville, Missouri.

Rockhurst is now on a four-game winning streak against the Bulldogs and have won five of the last six in the series.

The Hawks used a 9-0 run to take a 12-6 lead with 14:48 left in the first half. Shortly afterwards, a 5-0 Rockhurst run put the Hawks up 17-10 with 12:09 left.

Truman State (3-2, 0-1 GLVC) went on a 9-0 run to take a 38-36 lead just before halftime. A Brian Hawthorne layup at the buzzer sent the game to halftime tied at 38. 

The second half saw 12 ties and nine lead changes, as the last tie of the game was at 72-all with 3:52 left. The Hawks ended the game on a 18-5 run to secure the win.

For the second straight game, four Hawks scored in double-figures. Jesse White led the Hawks with 27 points (an NCAA D-II career high). 

Hawthorne finished with 20 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Daniel Carr scored 18 points and recorded nine rebounds. Nick Arensberg tallied 14 points. 

The Hawks shot 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the field and 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from the three-point line.
