Hawks open GLVC Tournament with 3-0 victory

The Rockhurst women posted a 3-0 victory over Illinois Springfield on the opening day of the GLVC Women's Volleyball Tournament Friday afternoon in Williamsville, Illinois.

The fourth-seeded Hawks (20-6) will next play top-seeded Quincy (25-4) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the GLVC semifinals.

In the first set, Rockhurst jumped out to a 14-5 lead and cruised to a 25-15 win. The Hawks ended the second set on a 6-2 run to win 25-18 and ended the match with a 25-17 victory in the third set.

Alyssa McDonald led the Hawks with nine kills and a .636 hitting percentage. Sarah Pyle posted seven kills and seven digs. Tera Reberry and Chloe Tyrrell each had six kills. Hannah Graves added four kills and four blocks.

Maureen Reilly had a team-high 13 digs. Sarah Montague and Molly Trachta combined for 28 assists.

Rockhurst finished with 35 kills, a .279 hitting percentage, 35 digs and eight team blocks.
