Hawks defeat Hillsdale, Parkside at Crossover

The Rockhurst women's volleyball team (12-5, 4-2 GLVC) won both of their Friday contests at the Midwest Crossover in Hammond, Indiana, defeating Hillsdale and Parkside.

First, the Hawks defeated Hillsdale (the No. 1 seed from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference) 3-2 in five sets and Parkside (the No. 6 seed from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) 3-1 in four sets.

Rockhurst vs. Hillsdale

Rockhurst won the opening set 25-20. The Hawks used a 9-0 run to end the second set after being down 17-16, winning 25-17. 

Hillsdale (12-3) took the next two sets, winning 27-25 in the third set after the Hawks were up 24-20 with a chance to sweep the match. The Chargers then won 25-19 in the fourth set to force a deciding fifth set.

After a back-and-forth beginning of the fifth set, the Hawks were up 7-6. Hillsdale went on a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead and later, held a 12-9 lead.

Immediately following Hillsdale taking the 12-9 lead, the game-winning 6-1 run by Rockhurst occurred. Kills by Chloe Tyrrell, Tera Reberry and Ali Olson and service aces by Reilly and Molly Trachta pushed the Hawks to victory. 

Rockhurst went on to win the fifth set 15-13 and the match, 3-2.

Reberry finished with 24 kills and a .465 hitting percentage. Maureen Reilly had 30 digs and two service aces. 

Three Hawks finished in double-figures in assists and kills. Sarah Montague led the way with 33 assists as Trachta had 23 and Reilly had 11. Reberry's 24 kills were the most for Rockhurst, followed by Sarah Pyle and Tyrrell with 13 each.

Rockhurst vs. Parkside

Parkside (7-11) won the first set 25-20, but the Hawks went on to win the final three sets of the match. 

Rockhurst took the second set, 25-20 after initially being down 9-3. The Hawks used two separate 5-0 runs to eventually take a 13-11 lead and finished the set on a 4-1 run after being up 21-19.

Rockhurst used two big runs to win the third set against Parkside, 25-12. The third set began on a Rockhurst 7-1 run. Once the Hawks were up 9-3, they used a 10-0 run to extend their lead to 19-3. Parkside eventually closed the Rockhurst lead to 23-11 before the Hawks won 25-12.

In the fourth and final set, Rockhurst took a 12-10 lead before a 5-2 run by the Hawks pushed the score to 17-12. After Parkside cut the Hawks' lead to 20-19, another 5-2 run ended the match to give Rockhurst the 25-21 victory in the fourth set and the 3-1 match win. 

Pyle led the team in kills with 13, as Reberry had 12. Two Hawks had 20 or more assists, as Montague had 24 and Trachta had 20. 

Four Hawks had 10 or more digs against Parkside. Reilly led the way with 16 while Montague and Tracta had 12, and Kenzie Hines had 10. Hines also had three service aces to lead Rockhurst.
