Men open conference play with win over Jewell

The Rockhurst men's tennis team posted a 7-0 victory over William Jewell in their conference opener Saturday at Bennett Park in Liberty, Missouri.

Combined with the women's tennis win over Jewell, the Hawks now lead the Kansas City Crown series over Jewell by an 8-3 margin.

Louis Keiner, who is ranked No. 39 nationally, won his No. 1 singles match in three sets over 32nd-ranked Ugnius Bickhauskis. Cris Cequea-Rivero went to a third set tie-breaker to win in No. 6 singles. Agustin Cortes, Josef Truhlar, Semyon Tsyrenov and Felipe Castellanos each won their singles matches in two sets.

Keiner teamed with Truhlar to win No. 1 doubles by a 7-5 score. Cortes and Castellanos won No. 3 doubles, 6-1.

The Hawks (9-6, 1-0 GLVC) also swept Baker, 7-0, on Sunday at the Plaza Tennis Center. Andres Sahagun and Brian King completed the sweep with wins in No. 5 and 6 singles.
