Hawks drop series opener against McKendree

McKendree outscored Rockhurst 16-12 in the opening game of their four-game series Friday night at Loyola Park. The Bearcats scored eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 12-8 lead and held the Hawks to one run over the final four innings.

Patrick Wind led the Hawks with three hits and three RBIs. He hit a two-run home run to right field in the third to give Rockhurst an 8-4 lead.

Brandon Hebrank reached base six times, singling three times and walking three times. His two-run single in the fifth cut McKendree's lead to 12-11. Andrew Loeffelman posted three hits and hit a solo home run to left-center in the eighth.

The series resumes with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and concludes with a single game on Sunday.
