Free throws lift McKendree past Hawks

McKendree made 11 free throws in the final three minutes to hold on for an 80-75 victory over Rockhurst Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Free throws were the difference in the game. The Bearcats connected on 25-of-31 from the charity stripe, including canning 19-of-24 free throws in the second half.

Rich Byhre led the Hawks with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks. The junior forward connected on five-of-12 three-pointers.

Jake Auer scored 14 points and had three steals. Timaris Brown collected 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Jihad Thornton tallied 10 points and four assists. Davit Kakushadze fouled out with 10 points.

Bryson Boltman led McKendree (12-11, 8-8 GLVC) with 32 points.
