Rockhurst opens NCAA tourney with 3-2 win over 11th-ranked Lewis

Sarah Pyle posted 19 kills and 26 digs to lead the Rockhurst women's volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over 11th-ranked Lewis in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional Thursday on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus.

The sixth-seeded Hawks, 22-7, will face second-seeded Ferris State, 26-7, in the NCAA regional semifinals at 5 p.m. Friday in St. Louis.

"We had a balanced attack. I'm happy with the way we played defense. It was a team win," said Rockhurst coach Trent Jones.

Tera Reberry tallied 17 kills and a .306 hitting percentage. Madison McClain finished with 14 kills. Ali Olson and Sydney Raszler combined for 15 kills and seven blocks.

Senior libero Maureen Reilly had a team-high 35 digs. Gracey Janes chipped in with 17 digs. Sarah Montague collected 36 assists and 13 digs. Molly Trachta added 20 assists and 10 digs.

Set One: Rockhurst 26, Lewis 24
The Hawks ended the set on a 5-0 run to rally from a 24-21 deficit. Pyle led RU with six kills. Janes and Reilly combined for 19 digs.

Set Two: Lewis 27, Rockhurst 25
The Flyers posted 19 kills and hit .326 to even the match at 1-1. McClain led the Hawks with six kills.

Set Three: Rockhurst 25, Lewis 19
The Hawks closed the set on an 8-2 run. Reilly and Pyle combined for 16 digs.

Set Four: Lewis 25, Rockhurst 22
Lewis jumped out to a 10-3 lead and held off a late rally by the Hawks. Reilly tallied 10 digs.

Set Five: Rockhurst 15, Lewis 10
Rockhurst jumped out to an 8-1 lead. Reichert and Woodman combined for seven kills.

Player of the Match
Sarah Pyle. The sophomore outside hitter got off to a strong start with six kills and five digs in the first set. She posted three kills and three digs in the fifth set.
