Hawks meet Lewis in NCAA Regional opener

Rockhurst is returning to the NCAA Championships for the ninth consecutive time.
Rockhurst is returning to the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships for the 16th time since 1998. The Hawks, 21-7, will face the 11th-ranked Lewis Flyers, 26-6, in an NCAA Division II Midwest Regional first-round match Thursday at 12 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building in St. Louis, Missouri. The Midwest Regional winner will advance to the D-II national quarterfinals, Dec. 7-9, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

RU vs. LEWIS: Rockhurst and Lewis will be meeting for the second time this season. Lewis won the first meeting, 3-1, in Kansas City on Sept. 30. Lewis owns a 18-12 lead in the all-time series.

2023 RU ROSTER: Rockhurst's 2023 NCAA roster includes eight seniors, two juniors, seven sophomores and three freshman representing seven different states. Seventeen members of the team are from Kansas (7), Missouri (5) and Nebraska (5).

TEAM LEADERS: Tera Reberry leads the team with 308 kills and has collected 960 career kills. Ali Olson is the team leader in blocks with 116. Maureen Reilly has posted a team-high 613 digs and has amassed 1,992 career digs. Sarah Montague tops the team with 695 assists and has posted 2,176 career assists.

GLVC STAT LEADERS: Maureen Reilly is the league leader in digs (5.57 per set). Ali Olson stands second in blocks (1.16 per set) and eighth in hitting percentage (.327). Sarah Montague is ninth in assists (6.32 per set). Sydney Raszler ranks fifth in hitting percentage (.361). Sarah Pyle stands ninth in service aces (0.38 per set).

ALL-GLVC HONORS: Four Rockhurst players received All-Conference honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Senior libero Maureen Reilly earned First Team honors for the second year in a row. Senior right side hitter Tera Reberry, senior setter Sarah Montague and  sophomore outside hitter Sarah Pyle garnered Second Team accolades.

HEAD COACH: Trent Jones has guided the Hawks to a 73-34 record in his first four seasons at Rockhurst. Jones previously spent nine seasons as the associate head coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Jones also was the head coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis from 2008-10. The Tritons posted a 64-28 overall record and a 35-10 conference mark.

NCAA PLAYOFF HISTORY: The Hawks have a 22-15 record in 15 previous appearances in the NCAA Tournament and are returning to the NCAA Championships for the ninth consecutive time. Rockhurst has reached the regional finals 10 times since 1998. The Hawks defeated Ferris State in the 2015 regional finals, got past Lewis in the regional finals, and swept Hillsdale in the 2019 regional finals. Rockhurst also reached the regional finals in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2014 and 2018.
