Inside play leads Washburn over Hawks

Washburn scored 42 points in the paint and scored 30 fast break points on the way to an 82-66 victory over Rockhurst Saturday in Topeka, Kansas.

The Ichabods shot 58.6 percent in the first half to take a 44-32 halftime lead. Rockhurst never pulled closer than 10 points in the second half.

Freshman Brian Hawthorne led the Hawks with 15 points, four rebounds and three steals. Hawthorne scored 11 points in the second half. Miles White collected 13 points and made three 3-pointers. Timaris Brown and Davit Kakushadze combined for 17 points.

Rockhurst ended up shooting 35.0 percent from the field (21-of-60) and 35.3 percent behind the 3-point line (12-of-34).
