Outside shooting carries Jewell past Hawks

William Jewell connected on 13 three-point field goals while shooting 55.1 percent from the field in defeating Rockhurst 79-73 Monday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 39-28 halftime lead behind the shooting of junior guard Jordan Jermain, who scored 16 points on six-of-nine shooting. The Hawks outscored Jewell, 45-40, in the second half.

Timaris Brown led the Hawks with 21 points and 15 rebounds. The freshman forward made seven-of-12 field goals and six-of-12 free throws.

Jihad Thornton scored 11 points with three 3-point field goals. Davit Kakushadze posted nine points and four assists. Nick Arensberg, Rron Thaci and Miles White combined for 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Mason Alexander led Jewell (9-8, 6-3 GLVC) with 25 points.

The Cardinals swept the season series in men's basketball with Rockhurst. The Hawks now hold a 6-3 lead in the Kansas City Crown rivalry heading into the spring sports.
